The project Give a holiday to orphans on the Feast of St. Nicholas

Through the centuries many stories and legends have been told of St. Nicholas' life and deeds. These accounts help us understand his extraordinary character and why he is so beloved and revered as protector and helper of those in need.

At the right moment St. Nicholas opened the door. That taught us that it really does not require money, but only imagination and good will, to revive or introduce these lovely old customs.

Dear God,
Help us be sensitive to the feelings of others. When we play or when we're at work or when we're just home together, help us not to say or do things—even in fun—that might cause pain.
Give us compassionate hearts, hearts like that of Nicholas— hearts that hurt when someone else is hurting. And give us hands that reach out to help.
Amen.

We all know they're out there, far across the oceans, or maybe even in our own backyards. Babies, toddlers, teenagers who for whatever reason are alone in this world. Orphans, with no one connected to them by blood, or law, they move through their lives at the mercy of those presently in charge of them. Next month, next year, or tomorrow, the crib they occupy could be given to another as they are moved to a different environment. Imagine a childhood made up of such instability, where nothing and no one belongs to you.

You can get involved...
Together we can help them
